5 BUCKET LIST DESTINATIONS
A brand new year brings the unbridled excitement and the anticipation to travel the globe. So many places to see yet so little time to experience our planet. We've decided on this final day in 2018 to list our top five places to see in 2019. The great news is all five of these destinations are in the same neck of the woods. Grab a latte, a world map, and follow along as we share our favorites below! Enjoy!
How uncomfortable do you like your travel experiences to be? Do you like the uncertainty of a foreign language and trying to learn just enough to be respectful? Do you love art, history, or the best thermal pools in the world? Think no more and head for one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Fly to Budapest and lose yourself in this most unexpectedly lovely city. We were both a bit intimidated by the language barrier and not really knowing much about the country. The people, the food, and the architecture are off the charts. You almost feel like you've been transported to another time. Street cars and trains stations that have aged with classical refinement. Hurry to Hungary before this little gem becomes just another destination on the fanny pack tourist list.
Not a real shocker but this country is one of our favorites! Clean streets, crisp air, and alpine vistas for days. Catch a train from Salzburg and relax as the scenery will keep your head turning in every direction. Hop off in Hallstatt and take the ferry across to one of the most picturesque villages in the world. Your eyes will not comprehend the magnitude of the stunning beauty. While riding on the ferry the first time take a moment to just be present and see with your eyes not your camera. Bonus: visit the village cemetery and see the painted skulls of Hallstatt.
This was a bucket list stop for me as my heritage is Czech. It was a surreal moment as we hoped off the train in Prague and strolled the historic streets. The churches, castles, bridges, and food were overwhelming stunning. The sweet aromas of trdelnik, a Czech delicacy and a walk across the famed Charles Bridge made for quite the impression. Be sure to take a day trip to the village of Cesky Krumlov. The charming village is framed by the surroundings hills and Vltava River.
I know what you may be thinking and yes Croatia was a war torn country in the early 90's. So much has changed both politically and socially in this charming country. Bordered by the Adriatic Sea, Croatia is a country highlighted by both the sea and the mountains. Spend time in the historic city by the sea in Dubrovnik or leave the city for the serenity found in Plitvice Lakes National Park. There's so much natural beauty in Croatia that you must add this country to your must see list.
Topping our list, though we really don't have a favorite is the mysterious country of Slovenia. The real exclamation points in the gorgeous country include the Julian Alps and iconic Lake Bled. We arrived through Austria and got off the train in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. This country packs so much into such a tiny package. Overflowing with steep mountains and raging rivers. When you decide to check this country out on your own we have the best guide for your adventure.
